Introduction

SOS Bahini was first established in the year 2004 and this with the declared objective to prevent and/or alleviate worse forms of exploitation, violence, discrimination and human trafficking of girls, adolescents’ and women in Nepal!

“SOS Bahini” was founded by women from the community of Pokhara and the “Board” is composed by women from all walks of life, The Board-Members are nurses, lawyers, social-workers, teachers, business-women, house-wife’s and doctors.

SOS stands for “safe our sisters” and “Bahini” means “little sister” in Nepal.

70% of the Management and our TEAM are belonging to the female gender, and whenever possible we are employing women that are belonging to our target-groups.

How are we helping:

We are taking the most vulnerable, girl orphans/semi orphans and destitute single mothers/widows with dependent daughters under our wings. We provide the best possible care in a strictly non-violent environment and this in the beautiful and peaceful settings of our “Eco-Village” that was constructed in the year 2013 and completed in the year 2014.

We are “trailblazers” in Nepal by admitting beneficiaries of the female gender only and by admitting their Mothers as well. Not only are we caring for these Mothers, but they in turn have become precious members within our organization. Each one of these Mothers is the nucleus of one of our “IFAP” families and they are caring for up to ten girls in a harmonious and semi-autonomous family-environment in separate houses all of which are located in our “Eco-Village”.

SOS-Bahini” is taking great care in providing best possible education, vocational-training, nutritious food, best possible health-care, proper hygiene, psychological guidance and therapy if needed so. First and foremost, we emphasize in rebuilding the emotional body of our beneficiaries. Life thought them that they are unworthy of love and respect and this promotes fear and anger as a natural response to life. This has been stifling their lives and removing all joy. Those children, adolescents and women have a lot of emotional depth to the past. Their childhood was a learning ground for guilt, shame, resentment, distrust, inferiority and all the most primal negativity they carried around with them.

It is the miraculous power of love and care that is creating the context in which children naturally blossom into their highest potential and our beneficiaries are the living proves of this! The sum of all this is that our beneficiaries develop a genuine sense of belonging and the trust and confidence that comes with it.
